I originally picked up Bruiser Queen, their second album, after seeing Kerri Kenney (of The State fame) and her band play "Lorraine's Car" on Viva Variety, the short-lived sketch comedy/variety show in which she starred. That album was so great, I ordered this one straight from the distributor, at a whopping $38. Apparently, it's been re-released since then, lucky for you!! It is impossible to describe Cake Like's music - when they started the band, none of the three women could play an instrument, so the music is raw, and the lyrics are witty, intelligent, angry at times, ever so amusing, and great to sing along with. The vocals are so amazing, like Siouxsie Sioux meets Kate Bush meets PJ Harvey meets Juliana Hatfield. Or something. Pick this one up - I promise you will NOT be disappointed!
