Amazon offers Belinda (Audio CD),25 October, 1990 List price $11.98 Belinda Carlisle more than proves she can go it alone / 4 I always thought that Belinda Carlisle's singing was the weakest part of the Go-Go's, so it was actually something of a surprise when her singing sounded a lot better on her 1986 debut solo effort. My best guess is that the songs on this album were chosen because of how well she could sing them, but then Charlotte Caffey wrote half of them, so go figure. Although I like "I Feel The Magic" from those five tracks, Carlisle's best vocal work is on other tracks, to wit, "Mad About You," her cover of "Band of Gold," and "Stuff and Nonsense." That last one probably best showcases the difference between Carlisle as the lead singer for a female pop punk band and as a solo artist. I know there is a decent greatest hits collection out for Carlisle, but on balance I am still happy to have all of her solo efforts. Final note: Carlisle sounds pretty good on the latest Go-Go's album, which may be a combination of songs written more to her vocal strengths and the nice harmonies she makes with Jane Wiedlin, but is still a nice improvement to hear.
