I'm happy. / 5
I am a long time RBF fan. I've listened to every release they have, Turn the Radio Off still being my favorite throughout the years. We're Not Happy, I must say may be better than Radio. It's atleast on par. The album starts out great wtih The Fire, and doesn't let up at all. Reel Big Fish has always prided themselves in being a great cover band. I still think the lounge version of "Hungry Like the Wolf" I have by them is 10 times better than the original. This album includes Revolution by Tracy Chapman, Story of My Life by Social Distortion, and We Hate It by Morrisey, and they're great. That's not to say they're necessarily BETTER than the originals, but they're definitely RBF's own take on them, and I like it. The fist two are both songs I've listened to a lot growing up. In addition, it seems the band has really improved in their songwriting, with some creative bridges. I've had this album since it came out, so it's been a while since I've played this album a lot, but when it first came out, I dont' 'think I listened to anything else for about 2 weeks. I'm listening to it now as I write this, and It's still awesome. RBF should be proud of this release. It's definitely a great improvement over Cheer Up. I give this album 5 stars. I don't think it's a perfect album in the grand scheme of all albums in the world, but rather it's pretty much perfect for them. It's really much better than I thought it would be.
Song "Alternative Baby"
well, i see you up on stage and i don't know just
what you're sayin', but you're my hero...
and a guy just kicked me in the head, a little girl
just passed out dead, i'm in between a big jock
and a sweaty skinhead but i love you
whatever that means...but i don't wanna talk
to you, cause i know i'd just say some thing
stupid and i know you've got better things to do.
hey, little alternative girl
don't you wanna be my friend?
you know I'm singin' all my songs to you
it's all right if you don't understand.
maybe i shouldn't be so serious, tellin' you that
everything sucks cause i don't wanna bring you down
but it never ever works out right, i'm gonna lose,
give up the fight, i won't get what i want
won't get anything but i love you...whatever that means.
and they don't wanna talk to me cause they know
what i'll turn out to be, i said i was cool
but i can't lie to you (but i do)
hey, little alternative girl
don't you wanna be my friend?
you know i'm singin' all my songs to you
it's all right if you don't understand.
and i don't wanna start again cause i know
it'll be the same in the end
i didn't like it the first time anyway.

'Brilliant' band's influences span many musical genres (The Daily Texan)
If you were a rebellious teenager in the mid-'90s, odds are you remember a song about pot smoking that used to piss off your parents every time it came on the radio. And it came on the radio a lot. "Let's Go Smoke Some Pot" first started getting airplay here in Austin, and soon after, it was a Top 10 hit nationwide.
A 'wildly' good decision (Student Life)
Recent W.I.L.D.s have been marked by acoustic rockers or acts that were popular while most students were in high school, if not younger. Guster, Duncan Sheik, Ben Folds, Live, Sister Hazel, Busta Rhymes, and Better than Ezra are all examples of this.
