Brilliant / 5
Although it has been billed as the "other Sex Pistols album", it is really the soundtrack to the film of the same title. Honestly, most of the thick necked thug punks won't get this album. If they listen to it without watching the movie, they'll hate it. If they have watched the movie and listened to it afterwards, they'll still hate it and on top of that, be confused, especially if they are American punks who can't decipher the thick British accents on the film. But the concept behind it is brilliant in my opinion, even though Malcolm McLaren (Pistol's manager) turns out in real life to be close to his on screen persona (one reason why many would be fans are turned off) the film and the album is still an amusing look into the media sensationalized run of the Sex Pistols in the UK way back when. If you get, you'll really get it and ultimately enjoy it thoroughly. Yes Malcom was an arse and the Pistols are a bit of a swindle themselves. But get over it. It's still good stuff.
Song "I Wanna Be Me"

i sussed you out
i got you in the camera
and i got you in my camera
a second of your life
ruined for life
you wanna ruin me in your magazine
you wanna cover us in margerine
and now is the time
you got the time
to realise
to have real eyes
down down down down
i'll take you down on the underground
down in the dark
and down in the crypt
down in the dark
where the typewriter fit
down with your pen and pad
ready to kill
to make me ill
down wanna be someone

you wanna be me
ruin me
a typewriter god
a black and white king
pvc
blackboard books

Shock, awe? Band names are a lot like brand names (Seattle Times)
What's really in a band's name? Recognition. Laughs. Scorn. Repulsion. A reaction. A band just wants notice. And its name can make for a...
Novel takes a look at post-punk landscape (Daily Nebraskan)
Everything is relative. Human League is as important as Joy Division. The B-52s were as countercultural as Public Image Ltd. and The Fall. Simon Reynolds seems to think so. In his latest book, the expansive "Rip It Up and Start Again: Postpunk 1978-1984," Reynolds leaves almost no band unmentioned, going through goths, new wave, mutant disco and everything in between.
Still 'Stooges' (Kansas City Star)
| THE STOOGES ?The Weirdness? (Virgin) ??? | The Stooges may be widely hailed as avatars and progenitors of punk, but a discriminating listen to their three seminal, and distinct, albums shows that they were a lot more than a schematic for the Sex Pistols. Their records mixed adrenalized guitar rock with raga, jazz skronk and Detroit funk. The Stooges combined the Neanderthal and the avant garde ...
SXSW '07 DAILY DISPATCH: SXSW Boasts Film and Music Convergence (indieWIRE)
Music and film tend to converge at festivals throughout the year at events such as the Woodstock Film Festival and even the Sundance Film Festival has become a destination for bands, with daily music sets on Main Street in Park City. Still other fests are also looking to grow a music component these days, but the place where film and music naturally co-exist is SXSW in Austin.
Dylan's folk poetry and punk's mad energy on two new DVDs (WOI Radio Group)
Two music documentaries make its way to DVD, including D.A. Pennebarker's meta documentary "Dont Look Back" about rock poet Boby Dylan, and 2006's home-grown punk documentary "American Hardcore" which exhaustively tracks the mile-a-minute 1980s punk culture.
The Stooges (Isthmus)
With the exception of Ron Asheton, the Stooges are unwilling to attack the new material with abandon. And for a band that amassed a huge cult following precisely because it often sounded like everyone was teetering on the edge of chaos, that?s a big problem.
HOW CAN I MISS YOU WHEN YOU WON'T GO AWAY? (San Francisco Chronicle)

TW3: 15 minutes of (Hall of) Fame is enough (Middletown Times Herald-Record)
'RAP REVOLUTION enters hall of fame'
Taylor : Go Westwood, young fashionista . . . (Tucson Citizen)
I just returned from a fashion-filled weekend in San Francisco seeing the Vivienne Westwood retrospective show at the de Young Museum. The show opened at the V&A in London and is traveling to a select group of cities in America. It's not every day that you get to see three decades of a designer's work, plus glimpses of the designer herself.
On the airwaves: KROQ DJ gets star on Walk of Fame (Daily Breeze)
It's hard to imagine just how the program director of KROQ (106.7 FM) reacted in 1976 when he heard Rodney Bingenheimer for the first time.
