about "crowds"... / 4
An earlier review says this song is horrible, and that the vocals (in part? in whole?) make it so. I just wanted to write in and say that it's definitely a matter of opinion, because there are people who really like the vocals on this song - and I am one of them.

I LOVE the vocals, because they are so over-the-top, ridiculously... awesome. Try to sing along and see if you can do it without cracking up. They are wonderful. I wonder how Peter Murphy was able to keep from laughing while singing them.

Okay, maybe P. Murphy would be offended, if he knew I liked his vocals on this song *because* they are so absurd. For me, they create an effect that is probably counter to the mood he wanted to create... After all, the lyrics are certainly *not* happy. Not at all something you would laugh about.

Now that I've mentioned them... The lyrics are another great aspect to the song. I've heard a story, that these lyrics were written in response to fans who thought the band was "selling out". The story seems to fit; whether it is true or not, I don't know.

At any rate, Bauhaus is probably one of my top 50 favorite bands, and that is saying something for me, because I like a *real* lot of bands from lots of different genres. (It looks like my "screen name" on amazon has declared me a sleater-kinney fan, which is true, but honestly, I love many other bands and styles of music as well.)

Song "Muscle In Plastic"
be like a dog
lay float on my back
pull my feet off the ground
let my head hit the sack

i'm muscle in plastic
nyjinski's bad move
just a white show piece
i've got nothing to lose

i preach for the praise
can't laugh so i gaze
like a bad offset
i'm just counting the days

i'm muscle in plastic
nyjinski's bad move
just a white show piece
i've got nothing, nothing to lose

sonar blips on my arms
my head's increased
just a hotel inmate
i'm the lover deceased
i'm the latent impression of a dancer's leg
i like faking persuasion
and laying my bed

i'm muscle in plastic
nyjinski's bad move
just a white show piece
i've got nothing to lose

Simon and Garfunkel. The Police. The Pixies. Reunions happen. Sometimes bands can just cast aside their differences and reunite. But in August of 2004, it happened on the local level when Harry Dingman came back to For Against, a band he had left a decade and a half earlier because of some internal friction.

Music Review: Night Kills the Day - The Study of Man... (Blogcritics.org)
Night Kills the Day is a band that draws upon the doom and gloom sound of a band like The Cure, and then molds it into something a little different. Their debut album, The Study of Man... , offers up a layered journey into melodic gloom rock. It has an infectious sound that will lull you in and dig around in your emotional layer for a while. The album is a well produced, easily accessible, ...
