Beatles - 'With The Beatles' (Capitol) / 4
Review no.164.Originally released in 1963,looks to the the Fab Four's third effort.Great early fourteen track CD reissue.Still nice to give a spin at the right sort of gathering.Like a forty-plus age get-together,late night summer outing,a picnic, etc.Tunes that still do it for me are "I Won't Be Long",Chuck Berry's cover of "Roll Over Beethoven","Hold Me Tight",their trademark tune(sort to speak)"I Wanna Be Your Man" and "Money(That's All I Want)".Recommended.
Song "Hully Gully"

(F. Smith/C. Goldsmith)

(Play it like it is, Carl!
Pick it up from the third!)

(Ha!)

Well, there's a dance spreadin' round like an awful disease
Hully, hully gully
You just shake your shoulders and you wiggle your knees
(Play it like it is!)
Hully, hully gully

Well, there's a dance spreadin' (*laugh*) round from coast to coast
Hully, hully gully
Well, when me and my baby do it, that's how we do it the most
Hully, hully gully

Mama hully gully
Papa hully gully
Baby hully gully, too

Well, I went to a party now and what did they do?
Hully, hully gully
Well now everybody's doing it on their way too
Hully, hully gully

Everybody's lookin' like they got the shakes
Hully, hully gully
You just wiggle your shoulders, man, that's all it takes
Hully, hully gully

Mama hully gully
Papa hully gully
Baby hully gully, too

(Let's tear 'em down!)

Hully, hully gully
Do it with your left shoulder
Hully, hully gully
Do it with your other shoulder, now
Hully, hully gully
Switch your blades
Hully, hully gully

Mama hully gully
Papa hully gully
Baby hully gully too

(How about "Me and My Girl"?)

Mama hully gully
Papa hully gully
You can hully gully too

(*Loud slap*)
(Whoa!)
(That's all [...])
(What do you know?)
(Before we bring on the star of our show this evening...)
(What else do you know?)
(Uh, he knows...)
(What?)

Book Review: Here, There And Everywhere: My Life Recording The Music Of The ...
To label this book merely fascinating would not do either its author or the subject matter it covers the justice both so richly deserve. As the EMI Records engineer hand-picked by George Martin himself to record the Beatles during what most will agree was their most important records -- the 1966 to 1968 period between Revolver and The White Album -- Geoff Emerick had a ringside seat for the ...
From the Smithereens, a reverential cover of 'Meet the Beatles' (The Record)
Pat DiNizio recalls his first encounter with the Beatles as though it were a scene out of the nostalgia-steeped film "A Christmas Story." "As I was brushing my teeth," the front man for the Smithereens, the long-running Jersey rock outfit, reminisced in a phone interview last week.

Retro Redux: A Music Contrarian Warms To The Beatles (Blogcritics.org)
Let me get the following statement out of the way first. Believe me, I completly understand that the Beatles don't need me to validate them, and I realize that they've already carved out their place in musical history without any help from me. I also understand that Paul McCartney has a lot of other things on his mind right now, as does Ringo, the other surviving Beatle. (A term he is ...

Gotta dance (Savannah Morning News)
When Little Richard was hip, so was dancing. When the Beatles invaded, they made us twist and shout. When the Bee Gees reigned, every night was boogie night. And with the popularity of Spandex in the 1980s came the rise of the Solid Gold Dancers.
