A B-Day Present From Chaka / 5
This album came out on May 28, 1980. I was born on that day in 75. This album is hot off the wax! Ever song is sizzling.
Produced by Arif Mardin, he collected the best musicians as well as creme de la creme of backing vocalists. He employed the Late Luther Vandross, Cissy Houston and teenage daughter Whitney along with Chaka's brother Mark and Average White Band's Hamish Stuart to back her on several cuts on this delicious album. Ashford and Simpson's "Clouds" and "Our Love's In Danger" are top notch songs.
My faves are Clouds, Our Love's In Danger, Move Me No Mountain,
Nothing's Gonna Take You Away, Naughty, Get Ready, Get Set and
Too Much Love. My ultimate fave is the remake of Bionic Boogie's "Chanson Papillion: Hot Butterfly". With the top notch background vocals of Luther Vandross, Hamish Stuart, Mark Stevens, Cissy Houston and Ullanda McCollough, they kept the heat up with that. My favorite part is when Luther and Chaka did the call and response. Hot! If you want some sassy drama mixed with feel goooood vibes, then this is it!
Song "Any Love"
You go out every night as a single
But you don’t really know what to do
You see someone that you’d like to mingle
And imagine that she is waiting for you
Chorus:
Any love that you feel
Is real
Any time that you use love
You lose love
There is no certain crowd that you run with
But your passions they never run thin
You say 'hi', they say 'hi' and it's done with
Still you don’t really love from deep within
Chorus
Batted eyes and bitter tears
Price you pay for all the years
Of holding back what’s deep inside
And living with a hell of a lot of lies
Chorus

Thursday band sampler (Austin American-Statesman)
Apollo Sunshine. That sordid Berklee College of Music background asserts itself in both outlandish chops and intricate studio arrangements, but the band's short attention span and myriad influences ? from Charles Mingus to Outkast to Ray Charles ? keep things from settling into the overly cerebral.
Stevie Wonder, by Unanimous Consent (Washington Post)
The legislators are swaying -- especially House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who is rocking emphatically in her seat at the foot of the stage -- when the guest of honor calls out a change. "Let's go E-flat," Stevie Wonder declares. " Everybody go E-flat !"
