It is one of the few Doors albums where the best songs are the ones that gained, and continue to gain, the most attention ("Love Her Madly", "LA Woman", and "Riders On The Storm"). Many critics hail LA Woman, along with Morrison Hotel before it, as a return to the Doors' roots, but songs like "Been Down So Long", "Cars Hiss By My Window", and "Crawling King Snake" sound unlike anything the Doors have given us before. They are straight, old fashioned blues songs that lack the substance of the distinctive "Doors sound". LA Woman is by no means a "bad" album (there's no such thing when referring the Doors) and I can understand why many blues fans feel that this is the Doors' best, but I would strongly recommend that potential buyers sample the tracks and not purchase it merely based on its reputation.
