I heart Pixies... / 5
I would just like to add to the shameless bootlicking of this glorious collection of some of the best songs ever written. While any time is a good time to listen to the Pixies, nothing beats the first time. Particularly any song off SURFER ROSA or DOOLITTLE, but any Pixies will do. Listening to them for the first time will blow your face off. And I am working under the assumption that if you are reading these reviews in order to decide whether or not to buy this album, then you clearly have never heard the Pixies before; if you had, you'd know there is no question, and you'd have to hear more on general principle. To listen to the Pixies and crave more is compulsary.

Now, I have never been one to fall for the hype. Truth be told, when the Pixies first came out, I put off a couple years in checking out their music for that very reason; I didn't want to fall victim to another hyped up case of false advertising and empty promises. I was skeptical at first, and those were years of my life that I effectively wasted not listening to the Pixies, when I could have and most definitely should have been.

DO NOT let that happen to you, you can never get your non-Pixies years back. Buy it now.

Song "Number 13 Baby"

got hair in a girl
that flows to her bones
and a comb in her pocket
if the winds get blown
stripes on her eyes when she walks slow
but her face falls down
when she go, go, go
black tear falling on my lazy queen
gotta tattooed tit say number 13

viva
don't want no blue eyes
la loma
i want brown eyes
rica
i'm in a state

choir in the yard
in the house next door
where a grandma brought
some songs from the shore
six foot girl gonna
sweat when she dig
stand close to the fire
when they light the pig
standing in her chinos shirt pulled off clean
gotta tattooed tit say number 13

viva
don't want no blue eyes
la loma
i want brown eyes
rica
i'm in a state

CD reviews: The Stooges, The Frames (Northwest Herald)
Generally, it?s not a good idea for a band to take a multi-decade hiatus between albums. See: The Who?s ?Endless Wire,? Steely Dan?s ?Two Against Nature? and whatever mediocrity might result from this summer?s Police and Genesis reunion tours.
Music Review: Eldridge Rodriguez - The Conspiracy Against Us (Blogcritics.org)
My favorite rock album of 2006 was by the New England collective The Beatings, whose sweet-tart invocation of the greats of Boston's postpunk history (The Pixies, Sonic Youth, Mission of Burma) on Holding Onto Hand Grenades struck me as much more than just attribute to their influences. In the wake of the release of Holding Onto Hand Grenades , Beatings guitarist E.R. (aka the improbably ...

Small wonders (Chicago Tribune)
Continuum's book series celebrates classic albums Everybody has favorite records. To this degree, we're all proud defenders of sonic delights no matter how dated, flawed or unpopular they seem to others. When discussion turns to such matters, too much information is never enough, particularly when outsider opinions vehemently concur -- or disagree -- with our own.
