Amazin, Reminds me of the Byds / 5
An excellent album. I am a fan of "I Can Hear The Heart Beating" and "Then NOthing Turned Into Somethin". This cd is entirely different. Yo La Tengo pulls a complete 180, and sticks mainly to covers mixed with some original stuff. It has a misty, thematic feel to it, a certain aura of perfectly arranged acoustic guitar and slippery vocals. "What Comes Next" evokes the Byrds, especially their "Notorious Byrd Bros." phase. An excellent buy, sit back n enjoy.
Song "Paul Is Dead"
Walking on 10th Street
The guy in front of me, Walkman, headphones on, Stones cranked
The thing that caught my ear, singing loud and clear
Well every couple of steps I heard "Woo-woo"
And he said it so un-self-consciously
That never it would occur to me that
He revealed himself
and I'd offer a blue
I was drunk the night we met, I might try to forget
Except I know so were you
I don't really care, cause we went on from there
And I try not to hide from what is true
The other night I had this dream
You told me what you want from me
I gave it to you instantly
and I woke up without a clue

Yo La Tengo Yo La Tengo Is Murdering the Classics (Pitchfork)
From the right angle, Yo La Tengo Is Murdering the Classics is the funniest record in the world. At first the title only seems sarcastic-- when you listen to the album, it turns out it's just honest, if humorously so.

Notes From Underground (Blogcritics.org)
I am close to finished on my bit about power pop, but I have decided to again digest the musical detritus ringing through my head. I would like to fairly regularly report on songs that do not get the proper exposure. Oh, I suppose a few of these songs get a spin now and again, but I'd like to try and focus on the great songs that mean very little to the average listener. In short, here are five ...
